If your collection of books, plants, or even shoes has started to spill all over the floor, seemingly invading every crevice in your home, it might be time for an extra shelf. It doesn’t require having to buy something boring and basic in any way – the items you want to display can be sorted and arranged in style through one particular option.

The French Country Shelf Ladder from Convenience Concepts ticks all the boxes. It measures 25 inches in length by 15.75 inches in width and comes in at a height of 72.75 inches. The ladder shelf is sleek, simple to assemble, and a storage savior, according to Amazon shoppers. Plus, it’s on sale right now for $84, which is more than $50 off its full price.

The best part? There’s no need to lug around your entire home tool kit or worry about instructions for an hour while using a small hex wrench. This bookcase is “a snap to assemble,” according to one five-star reviewer, who was one of dozens of others to comment on the unit’s ease of setup. Another buyer noted that it only took him 30 minutes to go from a box of parts to a fully assembled shelf.

Buy it! Convenience Concepts French Country Shelf Ladder in Dark Walnut, $83.70 (orig. $136.67); amazon.com

The shelf itself is a quality build, and the same cannot be said of all kit furniture. Many are wooden look alike, often made only of plastic and other materials, which reduces their reliability and sturdiness. Not that chic cottage option. Shoppers love that its shelves are made of sturdy wood and free from flimsy surfaces and stress-inducing wobble.

“Most tiered shelves have thin shelves and are mainly used [just] for decorative purposes, but these have thick, sturdy shelves so I never have to worry,” wrote one satisfied customer, who purchased five of these ladder shelves. They then shared how much they appreciated that the shelves “come with [a] little piece of block for the bottom to make sure your shelves don’t slide off the wall and crash down in the middle of the night.” (Hey, that can happen!)

While this rustic ladder shelf is useful for stacking books and styling decor, it can also be used in other parts of your home. One person installed it as a stylish storage solution for bathroom essentials, another used it as a home for their succulents, and a separate buyer even referred to it as a bathroom shoe rack. front entrance.

Whatever its intended purpose, this “perfect and functional” storage solution is well worth buying, especially now that it’s under $85. Tackle that overflowing pile of books or pile of shoes with confidence by having a chic ladder shelf on hand to help you get organized.

CLAYTON – Real estate development company CRG is buying the headquarters of global footwear company Caleres and aims to turn it into a $500 million development, complete with condos, townhouses, a boutique hotel and offices for the shoe company.

CRG and Caleres have hired a consultant to seek local and state tax breaks and Clayton officials appear to support the move, hoping to retain one of their biggest employers.

“We think it will be great to keep (Caleres) in our business community,” Mayor Michelle Harris said. “The new development will bring a lot of vitality to the area.”

The project will include additional office tenants as well as a luxury Life Time fitness center, said Jeff Tegethoff, operating partner at CRG, the local development arm of design-build firm Clayco.

“It’s about keeping Caleres in St. Louis County and the town of Clayton,” Tegethoff said. “To do that, we want to make sure we create an unparalleled experience that’s more than just an office building.”

Caleres, formerly known as Brown Shoe Co., put its 9-acre campus on Maryland Avenue and Topton Way up for sale last year. He said then that strong demand for real estate in Clayton and favorable office property prices for tenants prompted him to consider a sale. The company had struggled financially during the coronavirus pandemic, laying off or laying off nearly 400 local employees.

But since then, Caleres has posted record profits and seemingly put those struggles behind her.

The company, which has roots in the area since the 1870s, is one of Clayton’s biggest employers, with 588 workers, according to the town’s latest financial report.

“Subject to the results of state and local incentive efforts and ongoing lease negotiations, a portion of the proposed office space would house our new headquarters – keeping our associates and global headquarters in Clayton,” said Caleres senior Ken Hannah. vice president and chief financial officer, said in a statement.

CRG is considering asking the City of Clayton for special tax areas, such as the Transportation Development and Community Improvement Areas, as well as sales tax relief on building materials. Caleres, meanwhile, is seeking incentives from Missouri Works, which offers tax credits to states in exchange for new jobs being created, said Doug Rasmussen, president of St. Louis-based consulting firm Steadfast City, which advises CRG and Caleres on the project.

Clayton’s board of aldermen is expected to vote Tuesday on a contract with Gilmore Bell, a well-known public finance law firm, for the firm to advise the city on incentives. CRG would foot the $25,000 bill, Rasmussen said.

Mayor Harris said the city is reviewing incentives on a case-by-case basis. She said she could not comment on the specifics of the contract with Gilmore Bell, but described the arrangement as very common practice and said she had confidence in the law firm.

Rasmussen said CRG and Caleres will spend the next few months on zoning and incentives, with construction potentially starting this summer. The first phase of the project could open at the end of 2024.

Clayco is expected to build the project and its architecture firm, Lamar Johnson Collaborative, to design it.

Tripp Hardin, Mike Hanrahan and Matt Stephens of commercial real estate firm Cushman and Wakefield represent Caleres in its deal with CRG. Sansone Group represents Life Time.

After taking his email marketing company public and steering it to an acquisition by cloud communications company Twilio in 2018, the former CEO of SendGrid is now joining the venture capital firm that was originally both.

Sameer Dholakia joins Bessemer Venture Partners as a partner co-leading its growth-stage practice, the firm announced Wednesday, investing at the Series B stage and later in start-ups. The move comes after Dholakia left SendGrid following its integration into Twilio in June 2020.

In an interview, Dholakia said he made the decision to turn to investing after around 75 calls about potential CEO roles in the tech ecosystem. Several seemed like strong possibilities, but the timing didn’t work out, or Dholakia couldn’t overcome some doubts. Approaching them as a potential investor and getting to know their teams, he says, was more fun.

“After 25 years of doing something, you feel like you know how to do it reasonably well,” he says. “I didn’t know anything about this particular business line, but what I know I can say with 1,000% authenticity to founding CEOs looking for growth investments is, ‘I’ve been through this way ; I have been in your place.

A product manager and executive at software company Trilogy in the 1990s and 2000s, Dholakia took his first CEO job at startup VMLogix in 2007. He sold that company to Citrix, where he headed his developing cloud business unit to Bessemer’s Midas List investor. Byron Deeter called in 2014 for a CEO position at SendGrid, a Colorado-based email marketing software boutique. In 2017, Dholakia released SendGrid; at the time, Bessemer owned over 8 million shares, or about a quarter of the company. (Disclosure: Bessemer partners with Forbes on producing the Cloud 100 list.)

At Twilio, CEO Jeff Lawson had made three offers to acquire SendGrid before it went public, as detailed in Forbes‘2019 deep dive into their eventual combination. Reconnected by Deeter, also a member of Twilio’s board of directors (and who later recused himself from their subsequent discussions of the deal), Lawson and Dholakia announced the deal, worth around $3 billion. dollars in Twilio stock at the time, in October. Twilio’s stock is up around 60% since that announcement, though it’s trading just a quarter off February 2021 highs. The combined company today has a market capitalization of around $20 billion.

Bessemer, who typically hires investors at a junior level and grows them from within rather than making partner-level hires, remained close to Dholakia after he left. He joined the boards of holding company Bessemer Auth0, an identity management provider, until it was acquired by Okta, as well as two others: publicly traded IT holding company PagerDuty and provider ServiceTitan service software.

As an investor, Dholakia plans to focus on software categories consistent with these past experiences: developer tools, business APIs, marketing and sales technology, and business applications for artificial intelligence. He is no novice when it comes to total investing. Personal investments made over the past year include developer-focused startups CodeCov and Mux, marketing tech startup Spellbound, sales tech startup UserGems, vertical software firm ShopMonkey, and software maker Reprise product demonstration.

In a patchy startup fundraising market, with companies with millions in capital to deploy, but also stringent valuation multiples given the pullback of tech stocks in public markets, Dholakia says his experience in sale will help him win contracts, alongside Bessemer’s thesis-driven approach.

During the 2008 recession, Dholakia’s first startup nearly ran out of money and closed down. “We’re not that bad, and I don’t want it to be,” he said. “But I think we are heading into rough waters. I would encourage founders and CEOs to become more efficient. Focus on how you’re doing if the market goes down 20% and all of a sudden selling is a lot harder.

NEW YORK — Knit blazers, drawstring or elastic-waist pants and polo shirts as the new button-up shirt.

Welcome to the post-pandemic dress code for the office.

After working remotely in sweatshirts and yoga pants for two years, many Americans are rethinking their wardrobes to balance comfort and professionalism as offices reopen. They’re giving a spin to the structured suits, zippered pants and pencil skirts they wore before the COVID-19 pandemic and experimenting with new looks. This is forcing retailers and brands to race to meet workers’ fashion needs for the future of work.

“Being comfortable is more important than being super structured,” said Kay Martin-Pence, 58, who returned to her Indianapolis office last month in dress jeans and flowy tops after working remotely in leggings and slippers for two years. “Why feel buttoned up and stiff when I don’t have to?”

Prior to COVID-19, Martin-Pence wore dress pants with blazers at the pharmaceutical company where she works. She’s gone back to heels, but they’re lower, and she says she’ll never wear dress pants to the office again.

Even before the pandemic, Americans dressed more casually at work. The time spent in tracksuits has accelerated the transition from “business casual” to “business comfort”.

Still, dressing back to the office remains a social experiment, said Adam Galinsky, a social psychologist at Columbia Business School who coined the term “enveloped cognition,” or how what people wear affects the way they think.

“I guess it will be more casual, but maybe it’s not,” Galinsky said. They’re going to reflect on what they’re doing, the context they’re in, and the social comparisons of what other people are doing.”

Steve Smith, CEO of outdoor sportswear brand LL Bean, said people are stepping out of their “typical uniform” – whatever form that may take.

“They’re going to expect more flexible hours, to be able to work in a hybrid model, and to be comfortable — as comfortable as they were at home,” he said. “Some of the office uniforms, office cabinets, change and change. There’s no reason it shouldn’t be permanent.

Data from market research firm NPD Group and retailers reflects changing trends.

Wire-free bras now account for more than 50% of the total non-sports bra market in the United States, reversing a long-term trend, according to NPD. Dress shoe sales have been rebounding since 2021, but are still 34% below 2019 levels and more likely fueled by the return of social occasions, not the office, NPD said. Instead, casual sneakers are now the most common footwear for work.

Clothing rental company Rent the Runway said blazer rentals nearly doubled in February from a year ago, reflecting a return to offices. But her customers choose colorful versions like pastel and fabrics like lightweight tweed, linen and twill. He said “formal business” rentals — traditional workwear like basic sheaths, pencil skirts and blazers — are about half of what they were in 2019, said Anushka Salinas, president and chief of operation.

Stitch Fix, a personal shopping and styling service, noted that men are increasingly choosing options like hiking and golf pants for the office. For the first three months of the year, revenues from this type of clothing almost tripled compared to a year ago.

Polo shirts have replaced button-down shirts for men, and there is strong demand for pull-on pants, the company said. The ratio of work pants with an elastic waistband to those with buttons or zippers on Stitch Fix was one to one in 2019; now it’s three against one.

Other workers, however, feel excited about dressing up again.

Emily Kirchner, 42, of Stevensville, Michigan, who works in communications for a major appliance maker, said she invests more in her wardrobe when she returns to the office. She used to wear Stitch Fix tunics and leggings in the pre-pandemic era. Now, she turns to the service of high-end jeans, blouses and blazers.

“It’s quite fun to dress up,” said Kirchner, who had a baby early in the pandemic and wants to wear clothes that don’t make her look like what she calls a “frumpy mom.” “It’s kind of like that back-to-school feeling.”

Retailers have had to adapt to the changing demands of Americans throughout the pandemic and now again with many returning to the office. High-end department store Nordstrom, for example, has opened women’s denim boutiques to showcase its expanded selection as it sees more and more women wearing jeans to work.

Even Ministry of Supply, a company striving to make workwear as comfortable as sportswear, had to make big changes. When the pandemic hit, she was stuck with piles of tailored pants and jackets in performance fabrics deemed irrelevant for a remote workforce.

The Boston-based company, founded by graduates of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, quickly redesigned the items, sticking on elastic waistbands and removing zippers. He also refined the hems of trouser suits to give them “sneaker” cuts.

As workers return to the office, the Department of Supply is keeping those casual looks and sneaker cuts and has eliminated zippers for good — all of its pants have elastic waistbands or drawstrings. It’s also about reinventing your tailor.

“The new challenge is: how do I look presentable when I’m in person without sacrificing comfort?” said Gihan Amarasiriwardena, co-founder and president.

The 200-year-old haberdashery Brooks Brothers had a bigger challenge: It never followed the office casual trend several years ago like its rivals. Under new owner and CEO, Ken Ohashi, the company succeeded in delivering casual styles in a post-bankruptcy reinvention.

Today, 45% of its offerings are casual sportswear like sweaters and polo shirts. Before the pandemic, that figure was 25%, Ohashi said.

He said dress shirts were making a comeback as workers returned to the office. But Brooks Brothers adds a twist: a stretch version of its cotton knit shirts with the comfort of a polo shirt. It also offers colorful jackets.

“The guy is attracted to novelty right now, novelty color, novelty print, novelty pattern,” Ohashi said. “Historically this guy came in and he was buying a navy, charcoal and black suit. And I think that’s here to stay.

If you’re planning on immersing yourself in the great outdoors this season, you might want to invest in a durable pair of hiking shoes, because nothing can ruin your time on the trail faster than the wrong shoes. You’ll want to find an option that’s comfortable and supportive enough for a day of trekking or hiking, as well as sturdy enough to protect your feet from the elements. Luckily, you don’t have to look far to find the perfect pair, as Amazon shoppers have crowned the Merrell Moab 2 Vent hiking shoes as the only option you need.

These popular kicks are the top-selling hiking shoes in both men’s and women’s categories on Amazon for a reason. Both styles feature a protective toe cap, ample heel and arch support, and a fully cushioned EVA insole that adds comfort and stability. The sturdy sole offers excellent traction on all types of terrain and the mesh upper provides ventilation to prevent your feet from overheating on particularly hot days.

The durable shoes have a rear pull tab that makes them super easy to get on and off, and their lace-up design lets you find a snug, secure fit. The soles feature the brand’s signature Shank Merrell Air cushioning, which absorbs shock and provides a smooth ride and prevents foot pain.

Merrell Men’s Moab 2 Vent Hiking Shoes

A hiker who wore them on a trip to Nevada and Utah said “we hiked about 10 miles a day and my feet didn’t hurt.” Even people with foot ailments like bunions, plantar fasciitis, and bone spurs rave about the shoe’s level of comfort and support. “I have bunions on both feet, and this is the only shoe I’ve found that combines incredible comfort and rugged outdoor capabilities,” one wrote.

The men’s shoes range in size from 6.5 to 15 and are available in 18 different colorways, while the women’s version is available in sizes 5 to 11 and has 16 colors to choose from. Both options are available in half sizes, as well as wide options. If you want to see for yourself what it’s all about, now is a great time to shop around. Both men’s and women’s hiking shoes are on sale right now, with select styles and sizes up to 47% off.

We also have our eyes on another celeb-adored pair lurking among all Arizonans. It is known as the Madrid sandal, a simple and elegant slide that both Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwyneth Paltrow own. You can pick up a pair for just $66 right now.

Buying a pair of Birks means you’re giving your feet years of lasting comfort. The company uses a large amount of renewable resources to make its shoes, such as latex milk emitted from the resin of rubber trees and made into an adhesive, and jute fibers which are made into braids used for stability in the shoes.

And, at the heart, or in this case, (in) the sole, of every Birkenstock is a contoured footbed made of raw cork. It is harvested from the bark layer of cork oaks in Portugal every nine years. The natural material provides superior cushioning and has great elasticity, but still retains its original shape. TL; DR? Birkenstocks are sustainably made shoes that will keep your feet comfortable through the summers for years to come. So if you don’t already have these, you need a pair (or two).

The Birkenstock sale at Rue La La ends Tuesday, April 26 at 11 a.m. ET, although sizes are already selling out quickly, so we suggest getting the ones you want as soon as possible.

Diamondbacks shut out by Nationals, lose 1-0 Tyler Gilbert https://converseshoes.org.uk/diamondbacks-shut-out-by-nationals-lose-1-0-tyler-gilbert/ Wed, 20 Apr 2022 01:54:50 +0000 https://converseshoes.org.uk/diamondbacks-shut-out-by-nationals-lose-1-0-tyler-gilbert/ Shamelessly stealing today’s concept from our esteemed Turambar, I’ll make a beer. Shamelessly stealing today’s concept from our esteemed Turambar, I’ll make a beer. I thank Patrick for broadening my horizons in beer drinking and it was an enjoyable trip. I picked up a 4 Peaks Brewing Variety Pack from Costco, ($26).

I also snagged Patrick for his advice on the order of drinking, to maximize the palate experience. His answer :

“Start with the WOW, then Kiltlifter, Hazy and end with HopKnot”

Another feature is that I will try to get Mrs. Shoe to taste and review each beer with me. For anyone who’s hung out with us, it’s remarkable because she gets trashed after a drink. Who knows, maybe I’ll even get lucky tonight!

On to the game then. Since it’s 4:00 p.m., we’ll be doing round summaries for those who can’t leave work early enough to watch the game.

T-1 Washington Nationals starter Joan Adon buzzes to the top of the standings on 9 pitches. Varsho K, Marte F-7, Peralta, 4-3

B-1 Tyler Gilbert on the bump for the Diamondbacks. After a lineout in the center by the first hitter, Christian Walker smashed a jumping 108 mph on Juan Soto’s bat and turned to Gilbert for the 2nd out. Doing it better, Yonny Hernandez jumped high in the air to catch a 110 MPH line drive from Nelson Cruz.

The Joy Bus WOW Wheat

A fruity wheat beer, we both took the Orange flavors of course. Ms Shoe thought she also tasted pineapple, but according to the recipe link, it contains apricot and vanilla. It is significantly more intense than your typical citrus beer. A nice bonus is that a percentage of the sale of each one goes towards improving the quality of life of homebound cancer patients. (See link ABOVE)

T-2: After Walker K watches, Smith breaks the strike seal early with a one-liner to right center. Seth Beer takes a walk. But Carson Kelly hits in a 6-5 force and Hernandez hits 5-3, blocking both runners.

B-2: Gilbert crosses the 2nd place by granting only a harmless single. Only 28 pitches, 18 of 2 strikes.

T-3: Geraldo Perdomo walked first, but at the top of the order, all made quick outs on a total of 8 pitches without even advancing him to 2nd. THE. HIGH. OF. THE. ORDERED. POSSESSES. SEEN. 17 LOCATIONS. CHECKED IN. 6 OUTPUTS.

B-3: 3 Up 3 Down for Nationals. Gilbert only needed 8 pitches and even got a K in the inning.

T-4: Victor Robles robbed Walker of a sinking ocean liner, making a running dive catch. Pavin Smith hit a smash against the wall in dead spot and Robles almost nailed that one too, but it bounced off his glove and off the wall before Robles caught it falling. Ruled a double. Seth Beer K looked and Kelly flew to the deep right center to block another runner.

kilt lifter

Most are familiar with this Scottish “flagship” beer from our local brewery. Deep in color and taste, it is aptly described as a “full-bodied beer” on the website. You know you are getting something substantial. (AND ABV 6%). For some reason Mrs. Shoe thought she had tasted grape juice. She may have to be fired as an assistant taster.

B-4: Gilbert only needed 7 pitches to mow down the middle of the Soto, Cruz and Josh Bell national order. He’s just 43-for-4 throws. I’m pretty sure no other D-back starter is that effective so far.

T-5: Quick round 1-2-3 over 7 pitches for Adon.

B-5: 1-2-3 innings on 12 pitches for Gilbert.

T-6: 1-2-3 round for the Adon.

B-6: Strange game. Following a base hit from Robles, Lucious Fox hit a sack bunt which was lined out by Gilbert who shot Walker. Just as Walker caught the ball, Fox’s helmet flew off and hit Walker in the face and he dropped the ball. It was ruled a bag bunt and E-3. HARD error.

Unfortunately, Cesar Hernandez doubled on the left scoring the first inning of the game and the Nationals had 2nd and 3rd with no one. Soto tapped out first, and Cruz was intentionally walked. Bell came out in 2b and that was it for Gilbert as Torey Lovullo got out of the dugout and replaced him with Sean Poppen. He brought Lane Thomas to K and blocked the runners.

1-0 Nationals at 6.

Gilbert line: 5 23 IP, 1ER, 3H, 1BB, 3K. As Steve Berthiaume said, stand up and applaud. After a flurry of hard contact in the first, it was mostly soft contact thereafter. Great outing.

HAZY IPA. Mrs. Shoe steps off the mat as she correctly identifies the passion fruit flavor of this fruity IPA. It’s also my favorite so far…although I know what’s to come later and I have a feeling I’ll end up being part of the HopKnot team. I should probably eat something.

T-7: Seth Beer released a single and that was it for Adon. He was replaced by Victor Arano. Of course, Beer went no further. Kelly and pinch hitter Cooper Hummel were both retired.

Adon lowered his ERA from 10.00 to 5.87 this game, allowing only 3 hits and 2 walks in 6.1 IP.

B-7: I guess things balance out in baseball. After a base hit from Makiel Franco, Riley Adams hit a ground ball to Walker who threw wide at 2b and knocked Perdomo out of the sack. But taking advantage of the neighborhood game, Franco was sent off at 2b. Should have been safe and deemed a mistake. Poppen brought up Robles and pulled out Fox to end the round.

T-8: Dbacks go 3 up 3 down for the 5th time in 8 innings. Yay!

B-8: Joe Mantiply throws a scoreless inning 1-2-3.

RALLY BEER!?

HopNode: It’s time to bring out the heavy hitter. I love this beer. Strangely sweet with just the pinch of bitterness you expect from a strong IPA. Can he do the trick for a 9th inning D-backs rally?

T-9: Peralta wraps a line to the right for a hit, and Walker walks. Smith follows with a sharp single right to charge them for Beer. He is unfortunately K on a fastball and away. Jake McCarthy hits for Kelly, but obediently exits into foul territory at 3rd base on a 2-0 pitching pitch that was barely in the inside corner. Alcantara flies to the left.

The bases didn’t charge anyone at 9th in a one-run game and they failed to tackle a single run.

It’s called the classic #Dbacky. It’s the third time they’ve been shut out this season and they’re down to 3-8 this year. They went 18 innings and scored 1 run on 11 hits.

They had the lowest batting average and fewest hits for any team in their first 11 games since 1920. We thought last year’s team might have set enough records for nonsense, but the 2022 version says to hold my beer. (Yes, pun intended)

Fangraphs Win Probability Box

Meatloaf: Pavin Smith + .237

Janet: Sean Poppen .105. (WPA showing its flaws as Gilbert failed to make the top 3)

Frank N. Furter: Sergio Alcantara -.229

Riff Raff: Jake McCarthy -.225

No comments on Sedona Red today. Sorry gang.
