High heel outfits get me through the summer
While some have quickly returned to wearing sky-high shoes this year, I’ve been slow to move away from sneakers. That said, my obsession with a nice pair of platform or stiletto heels has not faded. I have always bought all the fancy shoes that have caught my eye in the last two years, even if I don’t wear them, maybe as a means of comfort and calm. Whatever the reason I think I am ultimately ready to dust off those sleepy soles and put them to good use with summer-ready high-heeled outfits that make me feel like I did before the pandemic all over again.
Maybe I can count the onslaught of high heels on the catwalk to my sudden urge to ditch my apartments. We’ve all seen and loved the fuchsia Mary Jane platforms that floated on Valentino’s all-pink Fall/Winter 2022 runway show in February (Versace did a similar iteration with its Medusa pump). And, of course, there are the Y2K strappy heels that are having several moments right now, reinvented by Saint Laurent, Loewe and By Far. So with all sorts of inspirations coming to me from all directions, I guess it’s only natural that I finally gave in to the gravity-defying shoes that call my name.
But, after a few years of running around in fisherman sandals, running sneakers and ballet flats, how do you reintegrate a high heel into your everyday wardrobe? For me, that means relying on a few proven formulas that will get me through the warm months. Ahead are the three combinations that are helping me embrace high heels in a new (and sometimes old) way right now.

Simple, light and unique dresses are a must for me in summer. I love having versatile pieces on hand that I can just effortlessly slip on. And while my sundresses are usually paired with flat white sneakers or sandals, I incorporate ultra-trendy platform pumps to kick things up a notch. Like the rest of the fashion world, I love this silhouette, especially in Versace’s chic silk version that reads extra high and delicate (especially with the Medusa charm dangling from the ankle strap). And the beauty of rigs is that they’re usually quite comfortable, regardless of height.
I’m completely embracing early years this year, including an old go-to formula I swore to in my early 20s: jeans and a white t-shirt accented with high heels. It’s simple, easy and works with a variety of shoe styles and denim silhouettes. I love the look with my aforementioned go-to summer shoe: the platform pump. For a more casual look, I opt for shoes with a playful and summery print that pops, like the pink tartan heel in patent leather by Larroude. Paired with jeans, an easy white t-shirt and an equally fun handbag, this look takes me everywhere.
The exception to my platform obsession is definitely the strappy, sparkly Y2K heel which, to me, screams Carrie Bradshaw. While these sassy little shoes can definitely be worn more casually, I love leaning into their sparkly vibe and pairing them with equally sparkly pieces. An outfit that I wear quite often for work and nights out includes pink satin pants from Rezek, a flowy vintage blouse, a small beaded Fendi baguette and strappy heels from By Far. It’s easy to set up but still delivers great feedback. The look is fun, fabulous and super versatile – all my favorite things.
