Jan. 2 shoe walk benefits medical service trip | Community

Kati Stoltman is hosting a shoe drive on January 2, 2022, to raise money for a medical service trip to Costa Rica. Kati will earn funds based on the total weight of the shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will purchase all donated shoes. These dollars will benefit her medical service trip to Costa Rica with Vida Volunteer, and the shoe donations will also support micro-businesses in developing countries and reduce what happens in landfills. Anyone can help by donating lightly used, used or new shoes to the Central Lutheran Church. There will be a drop in driving donations from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on January 2, 2022.

All donated shoes will then be redistributed through the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing countries. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries like Haiti, Honduras and other countries in Central America and Africa. The proceeds from the sale of shoes are used to feed, clothe and house their families. A budding entrepreneur in Haiti even made enough money to send his son to law school.

“I am excited about the shoe collection,” said Kati Stoltman. “I know most people have extra shoes in their closets that they would like to give us and help the less fortunate become self-reliant. It’s a win-win for everyone.

By donating lightly used, used and new shoes to Kati, the shoes will get a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives.
