Holiday party at the library

ALLIANCE – The Rodman Public Library will be having a holiday party at 1 p.m. Saturday. The choral members of the Alliance high school will sing Christmas carols and then present Santa Claus who will welcome the children. Santa will be available for photos and hand out a treat.

Teenagers invited to decorate ornaments

ALLIANCE – Rodman Public Library is inviting ages 12 to 18 to the Main Library at 3 p.m. Tuesday to paint a ceramic ornament provided by Hot Pots. Ornaments will be processed at Hot Pots and can be picked up from the library or Hot Pots in time for Christmas. All material will be provided free of charge. Acting, musical events at Mount Union

ALLIANCE – Mount Union University has two visual and performing arts events scheduled this week.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, an actor showcase will take place at the Gallaher Black Box Theater at the Giese Center for the Performing Arts. At 11:15 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, the Mount Union Concert Choir and Cantus will perform during the Christmas festival. Tickets are mandatory and are available at

‘The Nutcracker’ with giant puppets

ALLIANCE – Madcap Puppets will perform his version of “The Nutcracker” on stage at Rodman’s Public Library on December 13 in two performances, at 5:30 pm and 7 pm

The classic interpretation of The Nutcracker is told through a two-act ballet with the famous score by Pyotr Ilich Tchaikovsky. The Madcap version is adapted by veteran actor Dylan Shelton, an art director who has been with the theater company since 2002, and turns the story into a fantasy tale filled with giant puppets, comedic characters and audience participation. In the plot of Madcap’s production, Clara needs a little help from the Nutcracker to stop the Sugarplum Fairy from ruining the holiday festival.

Racial equity workshop scheduled for Wednesday

TOWNSHIP – The Stark Community Foundation is offering free community access to the Racial Equity Institute’s Virtual Groundwater Workshop from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday via Zoom.

The Groundwater Workshop is a three-hour introduction to racial equity where participants will deepen their understanding of structural racism and racial disparities. The workshop uses stories and data to present a perspective that shows how racism is fundamentally structural in nature.

The workshop is free and open to the public, but registration is required and capacity is limited. No recording of the virtual workshop will be available. To register, visit

Ornament workshop at the museum

CANTON – The McKinley Presidential Library & Museum will be presenting a holiday decorating workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. It is free with a paid entry to the museum. Kids will love making snowflakes and candy canes, wooden ornaments, magical scratch-off art ornaments, and more. This is an open house style workshop. Christmas house visit scheduled for December 12

DOVER – The Tuscarawas County Heritage Home Association will be hosting its 27th annual Christmas Home Tour from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Dover and New Philadelphia area. Eight sites will be decorated for the holiday season, including three houses and a church of architectural or historical significance.

A limited number of tickets can be purchased for $ 15 in advance at or in person at Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover or New Philadelphia, First National Bank of Dennison in Dennison, or at Pam’s Posies in Dover or for $ 20 at any visit site on the day of the visit. Tourists will be asked to wear face masks inside each site and remove their shoes or wear shoe covers.

Civil War Roundtable Event Set

DOVER – The Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Roundtable will host a special Civil War-themed trivia night at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Community Hall of the Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St., right across from Dover High School. The mission of the Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Roundtable is to educate the community about the American Civil War, preserve Civil War heritage, and remember those who fought for their cause.

Frequent panelist Chris Hart will host the quiz night, dedicated to the late Steve Long, iconic community leader, journalist, actor, playwright and Civil War enthusiast. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team. For more information, contact the Dover Public Library at 330-343-6123.

Oddmall’s celebration takes place on Saturday

GREEN – Oddmall is one of Ohio’s largest and most unique arts and crafts exhibits featuring hundreds of artists, artisans, performers, cosplayers, artisans and suppliers of games, toys, comics, collectibles and all that is weird, geeky, weird, imaginative and wonderful. Chrishanukwanzmadan, the celebration of Oddmall’s holiday show, will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Tadmor Shrine, 3000 Krebs Drive.

The event will feature dozens of vendors and live entertainment including Santa and the Elves, Krampus, book readings by attending authors, a reptile show, costume contest, dance of the belly, an ugly sweater contest, a live concert and more. For more information, visit

Saturday book sale

MASSILLON – The Friends of the Massillon Public Library are planning a book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the library’s book garage. For sale at bargain prices will be gently used / new hardback books, paperbacks, CDs, DVDs, video games and more. The public is welcome. Book club meeting on December 21

MASSILLON – The Askren branch of the Massillon public library organizes a book club on the third Tuesday of the month. The next meeting will be at 9 am on December 21, when the group discusses “The Fifth Avenue Lions,” by Fiona Davis. The book club is free and open to the public, with no registration required. There will be no Fourth Monday Book Club in December.

Escape Game event at the library

Sale of books at the farmer’s market

NORTHERN TOWNSHIP – The Friends of the North Township Library will be selling used books from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Farmers Market in the old Kmart building in North Main and Applegrove Streets NW. All kinds of books will be available from $ 1 to $ 5. Used books, audiobooks, music CDs and DVDs are still on sale in the northeast corner of the library’s first floor.

Stark Parks announces photo contest

PERRY TWP. – Stark Parks invites amateur and amateur photographers to capture the unique look of the winter season at Stark Parks over the coming months and enter its winter photo contest.

The competition will run until March 12. Any resident of Stark County who is not a professional photographer can participate. Professional photographers are those whose main source of income (50% or more) comes from their photographic work.

There will be three age categories: 9-13 years old, 14-17 years old and 18 years and over. Entries will be divided into three categories: Wildlife, Scenery / Scenery and People Enjoying Nature. Participants can submit one photo per category or three photos in total. Entrants can only win in one category. All photos must be taken in Stark Parks from December 1, 2021 to March 12, 2022.
