Sperry® Launches SeaCycled™ Collection, Amplifies Focus on Sustainability During Earth Week
Focusing on durability without compromising style, Sperry has significantly expanded its SeaCycledMT collection — a range of shoes made with recycled and environmentally friendly materials and manufacturing processes. This season’s innovation features a recycled canvas upper made from 100% recycled polyester (rPET). On average, the equivalent of 12 recycled plastic bottles is used to make a pair of shoes. Reclaimed leathers made from repurposed scrap leather and recycled rubber outsoles that keep rubber out of landfills are also used in the SeaCycledMT Scope. By 2024, Sperry’s goal is for 50% of models produced to be SeaCycledMT Collection.
“Sperry customers want products that last but are willing to make no compromises. They should look good, be well made and be priced the same,” says Sean McDowell, Senior Vice President of Global Products, Sperry. “With these qualifications in mind, we’ve proudly designed several undyed styles that celebrate materials while using less water and energy, and producing less waste.”
To help educate and inspire consumers, Sperry has partnered with PangeaSeed Foundation, an international non-profit organization that uses the universal power of art to promote the conservation of our oceans. Drawing on their global network of creatives, they chose four artists from around the world to create a series of animations reimagining the science behind Sperry’s seasonal innovations.
Sperry also renewed its partnership with Alliance of Water Guardians, a global movement based in the United States that brings together more than 300 Community Waterkeepers around the world to preserve and protect everyone’s right to clean water. They will partner at the local level to raise awareness and connect communities to their waterways with cleanup events as well as educational opportunities for Sperry employees and consumers, with the goal of creating lasting change. “Protecting and sustainably managing water, our most essential natural resource, is a responsibility shared by all,” said Marc YaggiCEO, Waterkeeper Alliance. “Our partnership with Sperry will highlight the importance of engagement at all levels, the impact of our actions, and how incremental change can lead to long-term solutions and tangible results.”
